IN-TEXT CITATIONS

In-Text Citations:

  • the basic rules
    • paraphrase some information
    • open parentheses (
    • type the first word of the citation from your reference list
      • (usually this is an author's last name but if there is no author listed use the first word of the citation)
    • type a comma & a space
    • type the year of publication
    • close the parentheses )
  • special instruction for multiple authors
    • if there one author - use their last name followed by comma space date
    • if there are 2 authors - use both last names followed by a comma space date
    • if there are 3 or more authors - use the first author's last name followed by the words: et al. followed by a comma space date
